The Cape Croker Park Manager wanted to extend employment opportunities for his park employees from seasonal to full time. He identified a Maple Syrup Business as a great complement to the Park since the Chippewas of Nawash have produced maple syrup from this exact location within the Park for centuries.
The First Nation hired MacLeod Farley & Associates through several back-to-back assignments to help with a feasibility study, business and marketing planning and financing applications.
Our team kicked into gear, and we carried out the needed planning, funding proposals and project implementation support. To date, $485,000 in grants and loans have been obtained.
Ziibaakdakaan Maple is now producing and selling over 2,000 L of maple syrup each year, with plans to expand annually, and Cape Croker Park has converted seasonal jobs into year-round employment.
